K2 (8,611 meters / 28,251 feet)

Details

K2, standing at a formidable 8,611 meters (28,251 feet), holds the distinction of being the second-highest mountain globally, situated along the Pakistan-China border. Known as the "Savage Mountain," it boasts a challenging ascent marked by steep rock faces and treacherous conditions. Officially named Mount Godwin-Austen, its more common moniker, K2, is derived from the Karakoram Range. The mountain's pyramid shape and imposing presence contribute to its iconic status in the world of mountaineering. Despite numerous attempts, the first successful ascent occurred in 1954 by an Italian team, emphasizing K2's notorious difficulty. Its remote location and unpredictable weather make each summit a remarkable and perilous feat. The allure of conquering this deadly peak continues to captivate daring climbers, adding to K2's mystique as one of the last great challenges in high-altitude mountaineering.
